Great. Uncle. Jon.

I'm hardly old enough to be a father in my mind. Now my niece went and got married and then made one of these! Holy crap! Lookit th' lil' bugger!

So now I'm a great uncle. My father is a great grandfather, mother a great grandmother. My grandmother is a great great grandmother.

My SISTER is a GRANDMOTHER. This is the woman who taught me how to ride horse, and to do the alphabet and a little bit of how to read. Who I remember joyriding with her and her other teenage friend to the beach, when she was babysitting me. Now she's Grandma Amy!

I remember when Rebecca was born! I remember fighting with her when she was four and I was ten and as most four year olds, she knew how to get under my skin.

I just got my driver's license like...yesterday... 16 years ago...how can I be a great uncle??

congratulations to all of you, and I'm sure that's a lucky baby to have so many relatives that are close to each other! what a cute baby.

and, pardon me, but dizamn you all have young families. My dad was 45 when I was born, and at 33 I'm a mere slip of a lass too young for a husband.

Some of it's due to size, as much as it is due to the age people are when they have kids. I'm the fifth of five kids with 7 years between me and my nearest sibling. (btw, Dad was 40 when I was born; Amy, the eldest girl...heh, grandma amy, excuse me...is 11 years older than I am.)

She had Rebecca right out of high school (a touch of a family scandal I suppose, though, since this was the late 70s). My dad is the second of like 7 kids. My mom is the sixth of 6, and her mom had like 10 brothers and sisters. We had a family reunion in 2003 for just my dad's brother, sisters, and the various kids and grands... 70 people showed up, 20 of them just being my immediate family, spouses and kids. Our 1980 family reunion on my mom's side (the children of Henry W. Smith) numbered about 160-180. The sheer numbers mean a much higher chance of having both very young and very old parents. Heck, several of my cousins have kids that are close to my age.
