Winter standards for sound recognition: 15 in one minute. Eleanor's assessed baseline in fall was 16. Spring standard will be 40. Her winter assessed number was forty five (45). That earned a star and two wow! exclamations from her teacher. I told her since she tripled her number from fall to winter i expected her to go to 135 in spring. She said "yeah."

Then onset phonemes (beginning sounds of words) standard for winter is 18 in one minute; and her assessed level was 36.

To be "on track" for the reading standards in third grade, it's suggested kids be at level D when exiting Kindergarten. Eleanor before winter assessment? Level D.

No child left behind? I guess. What about when the children leave us behind?
