Feb. 14th, 2008 11:16 amWe look stupid as Democrats. There's a wonderful analysis by Matt Taibbi about the fuckups of our party pissing on our heads and calling it rain. You know what I think would really transform this surge? If we paid some fucking attention to the Other surge, the bad one. If the front runner went back to work for a day and introduced legislation demanding an end to the war now.
Why couldn't he? What's Harry Reid going to say? Oh we'll never get that out of committee, we'll never get enough votes. Fuck that noise. As a senator you're one of the supposedly 545 most powerful people in the world (house+ senate+ supremes+ unitary executive). You can do pretty much as you please, believe it or not. Who's going to punish him? If he introduced that legislation would his constituents really vote against him in the next election (assuming he didn't win the white house)? And as the front runner for the party most likely to win the general election you're in line to move to the number one spot quick snap. Why wait? Why fucking wait? Plus, if he introduced it, he could speak about it on a national stage for free. He's already opposed to the war. That's on record--no one is going to hold that against him at his rallies and fundraisers.
If Hillary is so capable and ready right now why not show how capable and strong she is by introducing this legislation herself? What strength, resolve and leadership that would show! It would steal her opponent's thunder a little bit, show him how she can move shit forward in the congress in ways he can only talk about.
But he and Hillary've already voted for more funding.
I begrudgingly like Hillary, and I really like Barack. But none of this stuff means shit if these people won't talk about ending the war now. It's just chickenshit idiocy! So what if you're vetoed. Better to have tried and get vetoed by a mentally defective theocrat lame duck than to sit on your hands and write said defective a series of blank checks for my daughter and son to pay off working for a Chinese banking conglomerate in their sugar mines or somesuch.
You wanna draw some distinctions between yourself and Ol' Hundred Years McCain? Start today.
I voted in my caucuses, and did so gladly for Barack. But these people need to show some fucking spine now while they can get away with it. Lead. Now.
