Gotta hand it to Green Day. cuz it was late, I went ahead and taped Carson Daly last night to catch the supposed "whole show dedicated to Green Day". Turns out it was in fact a whole show dedicated to Green Day. Pretty much any time in the last 9 years I couldn't have cared. But American Idiot is a really good punk/power pop album, and it's cool to see someone at their creative peak and rawking on all cylinders-- the guys are tight, they hit their harmonies and everything.

I noticed in the front rows of the crowd were people my age or a few years younger and they're all suffering from the same curse of our generation: not a One is dancing. Somehow (I blame the people who are now in their mid to late 30s, but also my age for buying into it) we got the idea that dancing at rock shows is wrong. At these performances I would have been strongly compelled to dance. I saw some younger people dancing a little further back. So I suppose it's a metaphor for us all: the younger generations supported Kerry and more progressive politics generally, they want to dance and sing along, they are more natural and reflexive about diversity than any previous generation, and they're simply going to outlive us. Thank God. We who are about to rock salute you, young people. Down in front, old man, the kids want to dance!

oh yeah. and Billy Joe's been wearing eyeliner and last night immediately made my brain leap to conclusions. I can't find a shot from last night, so I did the best I could:

I see some resemblance, anyway. It's more noticeable on the Carson Daly appearance, you'll just have to trust me.
