Ursula K. LeGuin denounces the miniseries, "Legend of Earthsea," calling it a whitewash.
I had such hopes when I heard Boyens was on this series. But she didn't do the final script. And it sounds like they took a big dump on one of the finest works of fantasy ever written. I can't say how deeply moved I've been by Ursula K. LeGuin over the years. Nobody writes like she does- so heartfelt, real, poetic, lyric, yet succinct; and truly diverse in ways other writers hardly touched.
Really, Earthsea deserved a Boyens-Walsh-Jackson treatment of power, beauty and timelessness and it instead got a hastily pulled together hack job which includes my least favorite actress from Smallville. Hoo. Ray. Imagine Weta doing for the trackless eternity of Earthsea's four Reaches what they did for the lands and stone of Middle Earth. Ah, Roke or the Kargad Labyrinth or the snowy keep on Osskill or the ruins of Selidor or the world on the other side of The Wall as built by Richard Taylor! Sweeping over the Archipelago with Andrew Lesnie. The mountain of Gont as envisioned by Alan Lee! The sound of the sea lapping the lost shores of the East Reach ...
Picture Adam Beach as Ged, someone awesome like Michael Jai White as Vetch... I think Danny Glover as Ogion was brilliant casting... but that's... about it.
All these things and more, lost to moviedom because SciFi channel sucked butt and sucked it hard.
