Mar. 18th, 2005 09:48 ammy favorite sentence of the last couple days has to be:
"Wolfowitz first telephoned Bono on Wednesday to schedule the conversations."
CNN article about Paul Wolfowitz calling Bono to talk about Africa. Yesterday I read a Salon.com article about Wolfowitz being like the Mr. Magoo of policy making-- 30 years of being consistently wrong about stuff. I really dislike the guy's politics, his methods, arrogance and style. But I hear he's actually very kindly, deferential, good natured, etc. Plus he apparently has one of the world's biggest rock stars on speed dial. So they can talk about poverty policy in Africa. What's not to like? We. Live. On. Planet. Crazy. To prove this fact, the originator of the Planet Crazy concept,
dangerdhotrod got a jaywalking ticket that spiraled into a Kafka-esque nightmare of bureaucracy.
Also, Andre Norton died. SFWA obit and cnn. Talk about sweet, kindly, deferential, good natured, etc! And she wrote over 130 novels. I can't even finish a single short story and polish it up enough to send in. She's the female first Grand Master of science fiction. I have a 28000 word novella languishing in lousiness. She found time to write a thousand short stories and handcraft jewelry. The world's a little sadder for her loss.
