There's this book, Take Them At Their Words, which is about the loony-bin crap spewed by the right wing in the last decade. Salon excerpted a small piece of it, including the following:
"To be very blunt -- and God watch over Paul's soul -- I am a 99-percent improvement over Paul Wellstone. Just about on every issue."
-- Sen. Norm Coleman, R-Minn., Minneapolis Star-Tribune, 4/9/03
I blame YOU, Minnesota, for electing this man. YOUR apathy and ignorance gave us this vacant pretender in the Senate, this wretched little weasel who hopped parties and ground his gears hard to lean rightward. YOU who did not rally voters; YOU who let them spin the Wellstone memorial service as if it were a rally. YOU, Minnesota, gave us this mound of stinking lies. I malingered in Outer Dakota, mourning the loss of Paul while at the same time celebrating the birth of my daughter. What's YOUR excuse?!
YOU gave us Norm Coleman, as surely as night follows day.
Now what are WE going to do about it?
This election we must unseat the Shrub. This election we must reclaim the house.
Next election we must unseat the Pretender (and support Daschle next door). We must reclaim the State of Minnesota.
YOU and I are responsible. The ONLY way it's going to work is if we organize, and if we find people who don't normally vote. And if we find people who have never voted. And if we find people who always vote. And then we get each of those people to vote these bastards right back to the cesspools from which they came.
5 people. YOU need to recruit and activate 5 people. And those 5 need to each recruit 1 or more. And all those people need to be registered and then they need to vote. And they need to vote AGAINST the right, and FOR the most viable candidates.
I'm putting in my time off request for November 2 TODAY. My plan is to make phone calls and drive people to the polls that day. Are you with me? I'm also calling the Democratic party and going to volunteer. I'm going to take some other days off, ahead of the election, to walk the streets and staff the phones. And if I can find some money, I'll probably give some of it too.
