and if that wasn't enough
Mar. 16th, 2004 05:22 pm"Under the Internal Revenue Code, all section 501(c)(3) organizations are absolutely prohibited from directly or indirectly participating in, or intervening in, any political campaign on behalf of (or in opposition to) any candidate for elective public office ... Violation of this prohibition may result in denial or revocation of tax-exempt status and the imposition of certain excise tax."
Nader's presidential campaign office shares space with his 501c3 organization, Citizen Works. A more detailed paper trail is here: http://www.salon.com/opinion/conason/2004/03/15/nader/index.html

Normally, this would just fall into the slush of grotesque "gotcha politics."
But what REALLY pisses me off about this, is that Citizen Works is a legit non profit. And so Ralph is putting its nonprofit status at risk in order to make his campaign easier. In other words, as with abandoning the Green Party, Nader has placed personal ego above the needs of a worthwhile organization. And at the same time has violated IRS regulations and maybe federal election laws! WTF, Ralph? WTF??
