Just hours after congratulating ourselves for the way Eleanor evades and confounds gender roles (loves trains, loves princesses, climbs and roughhouses with the boys, likes to play tea party, ardent Vikings fan, likes ponies), I took her with me to Claire's while I bought some new earrings. While she was fussing and acting out, to distract her I put one in my ear and said, "Look at Dad's earrings! shiny!"

"No daddy! Don't do that! Only for girls! For girls only!"

I think she got over it. but damn. where'd that come from?
