"it was twenty years ago today"

peace! In memoriam For those of you living under a stone or in a pop-culture-free cave, twenty-five years ago today, John Lennon was shot by Mark David Chapman outside the Dakota in NYC. Incidentally, eight years before that, almost to the hour, I was born at St. Luke's Hospital in Mitchell, SD. It makes me sad to think about how much we lose, how so many beautiful things fade or are simply torn away from us. Particularly those things that are so precious and wonderful. John-Lennon.com (which I think is quite a poorly designed site) has lots of links to stuff about John. They are also supporting a John Lennon Day celebration. I am deeply relieved their chosen day is October 9 instead of today. One, it would be damn morbid. Two, a bunch of nekkid bagists careening around in tears, mourning their fallen leader on my birthday would really be a fucking drag, man.

raise a toast... (no butter please, of course)

Donald Watson dies. Vegan friends, you may know him for his legacy (i.e., among other things, inventing the word "vegan"). Happy birthday to me. If it's not one thing, it's another.
