man of steel, plot of soap

Current season SMALLVILLE SPOILERS ahead if you're out of the loop
Okay so [livejournal.com profile] mrs_lovett and I caught up on a month's worth of Smallville recently.

Um, can I just say (because I know many of you also watch the program) that one of the most satisfying feelings of recent weeks is seeing a) Clark do something akin to flying, finally and b) the sickening crunch of a school bus into Lana's suv?

Now, first, I acknowledge that Clark has "flown" before. It was just cool to see it in the context of my personal Smallville-fantasy. (the one where he says, "Shut up shut up shut up! Look, I'm an alien who can fly and you are a whiny little huMon woman child. Shut up!"

Second, I acknowledge that I am not normally a sadistic mofo with intentions of ill-will and bodily harm to young women. Serious! But I felt it would have been so bold for a series to dangle this chick in front of us for five seasons only to yank her away permanently. Plus, you know, I hate her. And her little anime nose. And her kung fu moves. And her mystical heritage. And her failure to be either Lois Lane; or even to be Lori Lemaris! I would even trade her in for the crazy chick with the teleportation powers that Clark marries while on his red kryptonite bender, just about any day. Hell even both her ex-boyfriends were more tolerable than she is (cuter too, in the sense that a smooth elfin fembot look is creepy and not as enjoyable as the stubbly high cheekbones of the late soldier boy, for example) .

I think it's time to reopen the Chloe triangle. Or better, some kind of Clark-Chloe-Lois or Clark-Lex-Lois threeway. In a van. While the van is being used to push Lana into the river.

But instead, they elected to, you know, go Groundhog Day on us and, similar to the the pre-Byrne movie, take Pa Kent's life instead. I wish they hadn't, though it's still pretty bold to make such a series-altering transformation. I imagine John Schneider is going to show up in future episodes. Maybe now that he's dead his spirit will go join Kal-El's and Schneider and Terence Stamp can harass Clark for his shortcomings from beyond the grave. Also maybe they'll appear, together, like Anakin and Obi Wan in return of the Jedi. But I doubt they'll be smiling like the Jedi were. Jonathan and Jor-El were never very amenable to CLark's actions so i picture them nagging him all the time. Maybe like the devil and angel on his shoulder. Awesome.

A least Lex is still kicking ass and Lionel seems to be back on his game. I predict he's going to make his move on Martha very quickly.
